The grape tomatoes from my sister are total cuteness today.
And these must be jalapenos (?), but I don't remember planting jalapenos at all. They will be eaten, that is for sure.
Lookin' good, peas, lookin' good. I flopped the plant to and fro in order to get this photo. What do people traditionally give their peas to cling to? Mine cling to quackgrass and weeds.
The tomatoes ARE cute!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember planting any other types of peppers? The jalapenos I've grown have been shorter, smoother, and darker green than these. Shrug.
For peas, I use tall tomato ladders now. I have also used two fence posts with string or netting stretched between them. I have also used an expandable pea fence, like the one at Gardeners Supply Co. That's what I would use, if I had as much space as you. The all-metal supports work better than string or netting, in my opinion. And something tall, because our peas always grow over the top of our 5 or 6-foot supports. Crafty people come up with all different types, using sticks/wood, bamboo, string... the possibilities are endless. I'm lazy, so I just buy them already made.
Could they be anaheim peppers? They look tasty, whatever they are.

ReplyDeleteYeah, these must be a larger type of pepper and you may be right. They look like possibly the type of peppers that chiles rellenos are made from (which, by the way, I just ate. Yum). But I don't remember and will have to see if any labels are still around.
Thank you for the advice regarding peas. Do you think it's too late this year to add supports?
The pepper was mislabeled - it must have been labeled either as a red bell pepper or green bell pepper; I'm pretty sure that it's the supposed red bell pepper. I have three big peppers (bigger than cayennes); they are all supposed to be bell peppers.

I hate mislabeled peppers! I accidentally grew a bunch of cubanelle (I think) peppers one year. I didn't know what to do with them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is too late for the peas, if they're already producing pods... they might not get much "taller." Have you tasted any yet? I'm curious how they're reacting to this heat. Do you think the vining types of peas are engineered? I want to know what peas growing in the wild look like.
