Rabbit Whispering

Yes. Eat the clover. Not the hose, though.

Or that stuff over there.

Happy, happy

It has been hot and dry this week. In fact, today's heat index is 101 degrees. Most of the rain that's been promised hasn't shown up. But most of my plants are doing ok.

Happy daisies:

More happy daisies, some happy sunflowers, and some exceedingly happy weeds:

I am reclaiming this little sunflower garden today.

Planting a couple new mega-sunflower plants. Six seeds, to be exact.

But what's this?

Nature beat me to it. Nearly two months after they were planted, these decided to grow.

I still planted more seeds. You can't stop me!

The alleged green beans that were sprouting a couple of days ago shot up toward the sky and now I almost have a proper row. Never mind the quackgrass.

I love green beans!

And my sad little roma tomato plants, including the deer-stomped and munched one, look pretty well today for all that they've been through.

Feast

My kids have informed me that they'd like every meal to be a multi-course feast.

I can't make any promises, but here is one, kids.

Last night, my assistant and I prepared Pioneer Woman's Sleepin' In Omelette. We baked it this morning and it was a huge hit with everyone in the family. It also was a perfect dish for a preschooler to help with.

Is This Basil?

What about this?

They certainly should be basil. I think we planted about 600 basil seeds.

I'm going to need some basil soon, to accompany the tomatoes-in-progress.

Now, to wait, and maybe identify a spot to plant cilantro seeds.

Barn

There's probably some rhubarb growing just to the right of the frame.

When you open the front door and look south, this is the view from The House That Built Me.

Accentuate the Positive

My sister does great work with vegetable seeds. She had a wonderful leftover grape tomato plant and gave it to us (thanks!). My assistant and I took the dramatic step of planting this thing.

And it seems happy where we planted it.

Good night grape tomato!

Across from the tomato, I have this:

And I have these:

I hope they're green beans. Otherwise they're a terrible mistake. They seem to think they're important, punching through the dirt that way. Here I am! Hello, world. Look at me!

Nearby, I have a large rock. I have plans for the future of this rock.

My plans require rain.

And, up by the house, it's another baby lettuce. That's crazy.

Audience, please get plenty of rest tonight. Tomorrow is the July 1 Solar Eclipse of  2011. Generally I hate eclipses. I am hoping that this one makes me rich. If you're traveling, please travel safely.

Susan Miller told me to avoid traveling. I'll follow her advice. Being too busy and low on funds helps with this a great deal! Susan Miller is a tough love astrologer. That's sort of the opposite of me. When I'm being an astrologer.

Accentuate the positive, I say.

Good night, audience!

Time for Tapas

Time for Tapas! Picture a clock that says that.

My husband received this tuna, made famous by Anthony Bourdain and Zingerman's, from his father as a Father's Day gift. We'll have almonds and olives. What else should we have?

We've been having tons of potatoes and eggs lately, so it's easy to imagine a Spanish Tortilla (omelet) as part of this spread.
